The album was released on December 6, 2011 on three different formats including a live CD/DVD[2] standard DVD, and Blu-ray in the U.S.[3][4] It features performances from the June 13 and June 14 concerts in Paris, France.

Background

During the The Sun Comes Out World Tour several performances were Broadcast and recorded. During the performance in France it was noticed the presence of 3D cameras inside the arena. In addition, during the concert new effects were used on stage. It was then confirmed by France that a DVD of the tour would be released on November 22, 2011.[5] After over a month of speculation the live album was confirmed via Shakira's official Spanish website after Shakira sent a link from her Twitter.[6] The site confirmed that the album would be released by the end on 2011 and that the album would be a CD/DVD. Sony Music France confirmed that the live album would be released in December 5, 2011[7] while Amazon confirmed the live album would be released on December 6, 2011 and that a Blu-ray version of the live album would be released. It was then confirmed that Antes de las Seis would be the first single off the live album and fourth single off Sale el Sol.

Promotion

Like previous Shakira releases including MTV Unplugged (single No Creo) and Live & off the Record (single Poem to a Horse) it was confirmed that Antes de las seis will be released to promote the live album. A trailer was released on YouTube and Shakira's official website on November 18, 2011.[8]

"Antes de las Seis" was confirmed as the first single from the album. It was also confirmed that the music video for the song was filmed live this summer at the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy and will be part of the DVD.[9] After Shakira's official English website revealed the release of the live album, they revealed that a live version of the single will be released on October 31, 2011.[10] The music video was released on November 2, 2011.[11]

Allmusic

Upon the CD/DVDs release, The Sun Comes Out World Tour received general acclaim from most music critics. Stephen Thomas Erlewine from Allmusic gave the album three stars (out of five). Erlewine said:

"Combining highlights from two concerts performed in Paris in June of 2011, En Vivo Desde París is a live set available as either a Blu-ray, DVD, or CD, all containing a similar program (the CD runs 19 tracks, while the video contains the full 22-song program). Supporting her 2010 album Sale el Sol and, particularly, its hit single “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)," Shakira leans heavily on glitzy electro-dance crossovers but finds room for quieter moments, whether it’s a stripped-down cover of Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters” or her own “Gypsy,” keeping the momentum running throughout a lengthy set, then bringing down the house with “Waka Waka.” Certainly, the video versions of En Vivo Desde París give a greater indication of the size of the spectacle, not to mention how they emphasize Shakira’s intense charisma, but as an album this envelops you with its energy."

He highlighted the perfomances of "Why Wait", "Whenever, Wherever", "Nothing Else Matters/Despedida" and "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)" as the best performances of the DVD.[15]

Commercial Performance

The DVD sold over 5,000 copies in Poland the first day, and it has been certified Gold.[16] Within the first week, it sold 20,000 copies in Brazil, and was certified Gold. In France the DVD sold over 8,000 copies in its first week, giving it a Gold certification there as well.

Track list

The Tracklist was confirmed by Shakira's official website on November 2, 2011.[17] Shakira's official Spanish website revealed that the audio CD will feature twenty songs from the tour.[1][18]
